I am a final year Sociology Undergraduate at The University of Sheffield, looking to start a career in journalism, social media, PR, advertising or sales.

My degree gives me a unique understanding of how society is functioning, and how changing technologies are shaping this change. One particular interest of mine within my degree is the relationship between business, the media, and society, and why the consumer behaves in the way it does. The digital age is an exciting time to be moving into business, and my sociological background gives me a profound insight into behaviour and large social patterns, which can be used effectively in the business world. I have done research into media consumption, social networking and identity and the family to name but a few.

My dissertation is focused on the link between music based youth subcultures, identity and class, specifically focusing on the Northern Soul movement. From this I am not just gaining academic skills, but skills that I will be able to transfer to the workplace, such as presenting, thorough research and report writing.

As treasurer for the University radio station, Forge Radio, I have a clear insight not only into how good content is created and maintained, but also into how a station is run, a fair allocation of finances and leadership. I am also a member of the Forge Presents... team, who put on bi-monthly live music and DJ events across Sheffield, giving me practical skills in events management, logistics, promotion and finances of an event. On top of this I am a Senior Ambassador for my academic department, leading talks and tours at open days, and having the answer to any question a potential candidate or parent may have.

I am a member of the staff-student committee, attending meetings with senior members of departmental staff to represent my year group's experience of the university. This means that I am responsible for taking my peer's opinions to the necessary staff, but I also take an active role in ensuring the right changes are being made, and feeding back to my peers.
