About
My first play - 'Spike' - is currently in development at the Kings Head Theatre. The play is about sexual violence, the criminal justice system and what it means to be a survivor. Also engaged in the project as director is Helen Barnett, who is currently attached to the Sphinx Theatre company. I believe my writing voices women's experiences in a way that challenges but allows an audience to develop a connection to the themes.
I have long been passionate about expressing women's lived experiences, particularly those who have been denied a voice in wider society. During my degree in Creative Writing at London Metropolitan University, I prioritised my playwriting on women in the criminal justice system, stemming from personal and political motivations.
Last year I started The New Venus Project. A community interest company that hosts events for women in the arts to showcase work and performances.
In the past year I have volunteered with Eaves, a leading national women's organisation and charity that advocates for rights of vulnerable women with a range of support services. I worked in the research and development department providing research and insight into women without recourse to public funds.
Currently I am working for the Re-unite project as part of Housing for Women. I support women on release from prison in re-uniting them with their children and settlement back into the community. I have found it fulfilling and motivating, and am keen to combine my theatrical and professional interests within one project or organisation.
