About
During the last 10 years I have been developing my skills as a cinematographer around the world in countries such as the UK, Cuba, Argentina and lately in Prague. In 2014 I finished my undergraduate degree in Film and TV at the ECA. After graduating, I felt the need to further my studies and take a more in depth course about cinematography so, after two years in Edinburgh working on some small videos and working in indie films as an assistant camera, in 2016, I was accepted in the cinematography Master’s program at FAMU, in Prague.
During my stay at the school I have specialised in, and learnt, how to achieve a certain emotion through the lens by the use of lighting and framing. I shot an array of short-films mostly on film which gave me the ability not only to be very specific and thoughtful about the story telling and its visual style but also, I learnt how important it is to be well prepared before the shoot.
I think it was during those preparations and endless tests that I learnt to paint with light as Storaro would say. I had a great mentor, Vladimir Smutny, who always pushed me to have the most thorough preparation possible and also showed me that by running tests first, my knowledge and my confidence would increase.
After completing the first year at FAMU, I was accepted to do an internship at Panavision Prague during the summer break, where I worked for four months. This was a great experience and a great entry point into the film industry in Prague. Thanks to that internship, my networking grew. I worked professionally in Czech commercials as an assistant camera but also in Czech films, the most relevant being: Český Pepík going to Poland in a quest of finding love of God directed by Vít Klusák & Filip Remunda and The Painted Bird shot by Vladimir Smutny where I worked in dailies.
I also had the pleasure to work in international productions such as A boy called Christmas directed by Gil Kenan and lensed by Zac Nicholson where I was a camera trainee. This film was the biggest project I have worked on to date. I spent the most incredible 3months of my life. The film was shot in Prague and London. I was lucky enough to be taken to London to finish the film. It was a great experience shooting in London. I learnt so much by watching and absorbing the knowledge of all the professionals involved in the project.
These experiences on professional sets and my experience on shooting on film in the school reinforced my confidence and expanded my vision as a cinematographer.
Now, coming back to the UK, I’m waiting for the right script where I can demonstrated my knowledge and share my experience.
