About
Ed began his career working in theatre lighting, and spent some time in a film lighting rental company before attending the University of Warwick to study Film & Literature. Eager to get started in filmmaking, he left early after two years to form a production company making high-end corporate films, which gradually led to opportunities as Director of Photography on British Film Council shorts, commercials and music videos. He went freelance as a DP in 2009.
In 2011 Ed had his first break in television drama as second unit DP on “Red Dwarf”, closely followed by the main unit DP role on the 6 part series “Common Ground” for Sky. He was soon in demand as both a DP and camera operator on shows including “Doctor Who”; “Poldark”; “ Cucumber”; “Mapp & Lucia”; “Uncle” and many more. Recently he spent six weeks shooting 35mm film as one of two DPs on the £20m BBC action adventure drama “Atlantis”.
In 2013 Ed shot his second feature “The Last Showing” for director Phil Hawkins, starring Robert Englund, now released in the UK by Sony Pictures, with rave reviews for the cinematography. Several features are in the works for 2015.
Ed was chosen as one of Broadcast Magazine’s rising talents in their 2013 “Hot Shots” piece, and featured as a “New Wave” DP in British Cinematographer magazine in the same year (see press clippings). His commercial for the Carers’ Trust with Little Fish Films was voted one of the top 50 ads of their year by the Advertising Producer’s Association in 2014.
Ed is 30 and lives in Birmingham, UK. In the occasional gaps between projects he enjoys sailing, diving and aviation.
