About
Tania is a Portuguese and Australian director, dramaturg and workshop facilitator based in the UK. She’s a graduate from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, the King’s Head Theatre Trainee Director Scheme and the Royal Opera House’s Opera Directors Training Programme led by Katie Mitchell.
She is the co-founder of award-winning Play Pen Productions (winner of Scottish Daily Mail Drama Award 2012 for New Musical THE PICTURE HOUSE) and an associate artist at Giants Theatre Company. She received an Off-West-End Award nomination for Best Director for the London run and international tour of new musical PAPER HEARTS.
Directing credits include LIMBO:CITY OF DREAMS (Edinburgh Fringe 2019/ American Music Theatre Project, Best New Musical Nominee Musical Theatre Review), IT'S ONLY LIFE (Union Theatre/Aria Entertainment, Best New Musical Nominee Off-West-End Awards), A MOTHER'S SONG (Edinburgh Fringe 2018/ American Music Theatre Project), THE TOYBOY DIARIES (Hope Mill Theatre), TENDERLY (New Wimbledon Theatre), PAPER HEARTS (Upstairs at the Gatehouse and International Tour), PIECE OF SILK and HELLO AGAIN (The Hope Theatre), THE PICTURE HOUSE (TheSpace Edinburgh Festival Fringe/The Lost Theatre).
Pieces in development include THE BOW MAKER (supported by NTS, Dundee Rep, British Council and Creative Scotland and presented at BEAM 2018), MASTERS AND JOHNSON (Rep Stripped Festival), DEPTFORD WIVES (supported by Arts Council and Greenwich Maritime Museum), PAPADOPOULOS! The Musical (based on the hit indie film “Papadopoulos and Sons”), THE LOST ONES (supported by The Bush Theatre, Theatre Royal Stratford East and Arts Council England).
Tania has worked as a dramaturg and development director for leading new musical theatre festivals MT:FEST and FROM PAGE TO STAGE and on R&D projects in association with Theatre 503, The Bush Theatre, Tristan Bates Theatre, The Other Palace, The Bunker, The Blue Elephant, The Lowry and SellaDoor.
As a workshop facilitator and educator, Tania has directed at some of the UK’s leading drama schools - THE QUEEN'S NOSE (London School of Musical Theatre), NINE (Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts), DEPTFORD WIVES (East15 Acting School) - and has delivered workshops for schools, companies for young people and community groups including Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Identity Acting School, Theatre Train, British Youth Music Theatre, National Theatre Connections, Edge Hill University, The Forge Initiative, Southall Black Sisters, The Three Cs and Iranian and Kurdish Women Right’s Organisation (IKWRO). Internationally, she has led educational workshops for companies from South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Portugal and Cambodia.
