About
Co-Artistic Director of Caligula's Alibi
I am a theatre director & writer who originally trained as an actor & theatre maker as part of East 15's notorious Contemporary Theatre Course. Whilst performing, writing and creating my own work I discovered that directing was the path for me and I believe my former experience within different aspects of the arts allows me to be a unique and vigorous director - rooted in “play”, rhythm, musicality and improvisation - who is able to deal with performers in a different way, approaching them from a different angle to run an efficient and prosperous rehearsal room.
The bulk of my experience has come from the founding and running of my own company - Caligula's Alibi. The work has been performed at Soho Theatre, Vault Festival, Southwark Playhouse, Pleasance Islington & Edinburgh to name a few and ranges from New Writing, to adapting Dostoyevsky's life and works for the stage. The things that remain a constant in our work are the strong socio-political message and the subversion of the audience experience. The company is unique - producing work that did not stem from topicality or government box ticking; theatre that could be idiosyncratic, funny and with an existential theme at it's core.
