The researchers survival guide is a two-part workshop designed to introduce you to the basics of being a good researcher. Over the two sessions, participants will be  shown how to dig up the right information for their programmes – efficiently, accurately and effectively. The course will help develop the wide range of skills required including social media and internet research, fact checking and telephone techniques.  

This workshop is part of our week-long focus on new entrants and junior roles. If you are looking to make your first move into the TV industry or have a few credits under your belt and are working to progress, then keep an eye on our schedule this week.

Who it's for

This workshop is aimed at those looking to get into unscripted television, junior researchers, runners and production secretaries. 

As there are only a limited number of places, tickets will be allocated via a ballot system to give all those interested a fair chance to secure a place.

There will be two hour-long sessions, taking place Monday 24th August and on Tuesday 25th August from 11.30am -12.30pm each day. Please be sure you can commit to attending the full programme before you apply

Applications will close at midnight on Friday 21st August with notifications to successful applicants being made over the weekend.

Pamela Relton is one of the UK’s leading media trainers. A member of the Charted Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and a professionally qualified trainer and consultant, her clients include BBC Academy, Indie Training Fund, ITV, ScreenSkills, Endemol Shine UK and other leading TV companies. 

She also works internationally with professionals in film, scriptwriting, animation and cross-platform teams. Pamela worked for the BBC for 15 years as a TV researcher and broadcast journalist and her career in TV has ensured she has a wide practical experience of content production, and she draws on this expertise in her training events through the use of stories, analogies and real examples. 
  
This event is supported by the ScreenSkills Television Skills Fund which invests in training for the freelance television workforce thanks to contributions from the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5.   
 
It is part of a ScreenSkills programme managed by the Indie Training Fund to support freelancers to upskill and stay connected, helping keep the industry resilient in these difficult times.
