Due to the popularity of this training NFTS has created 2 separate courses, one concentrating on TV and this one, which concentrates on FILM.

Who it's for

The course aims at those moving out of full-time employment into the freelance independent sector, and at people who are contemplating starting up their own companies.

What it covers

Packed with useful information, it aims to help you set up business as a freelancer or as a small production company.

Areas include:

  • what should your "core" business be;
  • how to set up your business structures;
  • how to become a freelancer or start your own company;
  • what you must do as an employer;
  • accounting systems and managing them;
  • approaches to total production budgeting, production fees and umbrella deals;
  • long-term financial survival and business plans;
  • the legal framework for business and production;
  • knowing the market place for pitching yourself and your projects.

Please note that both courses concentrate more on the specifics of running a media-based company as opposed to the content that they produce so should be applicable to all, but use examples and references from either FILM or TV as their building blocks
