Thousands of young adults across the UK will be collecting their A-level and further education results this week and reflecting on what opportunities lie ahead.
For those considering a future in the screen industries, there are a range of options available to get you on that journey. With the UK well positioned as an industry world leader, there are plenty of opportunities across film, television, animation and games open to everyone.
If you’re not quite sure of what careers are available in the screen industries then ScreenSkills job profiles are a good place to start. These break down the various roles, provide information on how to get into different screen sectors and what relevant education and qualifications are needed. You can even find your ideal entry-level role through the job profile matcher.
Some of the skills needed to start out on a career in screen can be picked up at university. ScreenSkills Select aims to remove some of the ambiguity around which courses are best suited to the industry’s needs by endorsing those identified as providing the best learning, training and preparation for a future in screen. They range in focus and speciality and have been recognised for their ability to provide the relevant tools required to receive work in the industry after graduation.
A suite of e-learning courses have been developed to offer practical advice to those considering taking their first steps in the industry. Over five modules, Getting Into the Screen Industries introduces candidates to roles within the industry, helps identify the right role for certain skills, how to find work, how to apply for a role and how to perform well at an interview.
We congratulate all students for their results and wish them the best of luck with their next step.
