From 6 – 12 February 2023, the Department for Education are calling on individuals, employers and training providers to mark their National Apprenticeship Week and encourage how apprenticeships can help to provide #SkillsForLife.
Our extensive work in this area includes the development of two flexi-apprenticeship pilot programmes that aim to give opportunities to talented people who want to break into the creative industries.
The roles provide a structured programme of off-the-job training, ongoing support and invaluable on-the-job experience through our industry partners and their studios.
The pilot programme has also allowed us to work with industry and explore the viability of this vocational entry-route into film and TV, which is heavily freelance-based.
Our first pilot programme launched in August 2021, funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and in partnership with Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery, which saw 19 apprentices from a diverse range of backgrounds training as broadcast production assistants and assistant production accountants, many of whom have gone directly into paid work after completing their apprenticeship.
Last year, we welcomed an additional 37 apprentices as part of the Flexi-Job Apprenticeship Agency pilot programme, funded by the Department for Education (DfE). Working with our lead industry partner at Prime Video alongside other industry partners at Sky, Fremantle, Banijay UK and Lime Pictures, the apprentices are working across roles in production, accounts, and post-production.
