About
🎬 Gary J Hewitt – Award-Winning Screenwriter & DirectorWith a passion for storytelling and a track record of success, I am an accomplished screenwriter and director. My debut feature film, Cleek (2018), had a strong festival run before securing distribution on Amazon Prime and DVD via Shami Media Group.Following Cleek, I directed the award-winning short film Mia, which received critical acclaim and over ten prestigious awards, including Best British Film, Best Film, and the IAC Diamond Award at BIAFF—making me the only filmmaker to have won all three in the festival’s history. My latest short film, DIG, repeated this rare achievement and screened at BAFTA and OSCAR-recognised festivals, including SQUIFF, Foyle Film Festival, and Carmarthen Bay Film Festival. Most recently, my second feature film, The Defender, premiered on STV Player on November 1, 2024, with two more features—Highland of the Dead and The Wicked Within—currently in pre-production.Beyond directing, my experience includes working as a Casting Assistant, contributing to commercials and productions for BBC and Comedy Central and working at GMAC Film.
