About

I am a freelance theatre director and writer, currently investigating a transition into screen work.

I hold a PhD from the Film & Television Studies Department at the University of Warwick, for research into digital film technologies and th work of Richard Linklater.

In 2017, I won Best Director at the Off West End awards for 'punkplay' at Southwark Playhouse ("Tom Hughes's well-acted production generates just the right spirit, pitched between a lively sense of the ridiculous and an unblunted empathy with the raging energies and underlying sadness of adolescence." THE INDEPENDENT).

In 2018, I wrote and directed 'Daughters of the Sun' at Camden People's Theatre  ("a perfect show for a cold winter's night, filled with honesty, warmth, vulnerability and hope" JONATHAN WAKEHAM).

I have worked as resident or staff director with Michael Longhurst ('Caroline, or Change' West End, 'Amadeus' National Theatre), Rufus Norris ('The Threepenny Opera' National Theatre) and Carrie Cracknell ('A Doll's House' Young Vic).
