About
I am a freelance theatre director, have an MA in Drama Directing from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and an MA in English from the University of St Andrews, Scotland, during which time I directed over 20 productions, in venues across the town, including the ruins of St Andrews castle.
I trained as an actor at the BAFTA award-winning Television Workshop in Nottingham and went on to direct productions with the company. I have taken three shows to Edinburgh Festival Fringe, all of which received five star reviews and positive audience feedback.
I have a particular interest in new writing, having directed several world premieres of new work. I am also excited by site-specific work, and have directed two promenade site-specific Shakespeare plays for Edinburgh Festival Fringe, both of which were produced in association with Richard Demarco (founder of the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh), and the Demarco European Art Foundation. Macbeth on Inchcolm Island and The Tempest in the Firth of Forth both enjoyed sell-out runs and favourable reviews from national press.
Recent theatre includes: Woman and Scarecrow (Brewery Theatre at Tobacco Factory), Mrs Green: The Musical (Nottingham Playhouse and Leicester Curve), The Tempest (Hopetoun Estate in the Firth of Forth, Fingask Estate Dundee, Belladrum Estate in the Highlands), Love Song (C Venues), Macbeth (St Andrews’ Castle, and Inchcolm Island), Airswimming, Unsuspecting Suasan, Zoo Story (The Television Workshop Studio) King Lear, Translations (The Byre Theatre), Creditors (Summerhall), Love and Money, In Flame, Bodies (Barron Theatre), A Doll’s House(BOVTS).
As assistant director: War Game assisting Toby Hulse (Bristol Old Vic), Merchant of Venice assisting RSC’s Bill Alexander (Redgrave Theatre), Grand Gesture, assisting Gwenda Hughes (Tobacco Factory), Much Ado About Nothing and Twelfth Night (GB Productions national tour).
