About
Janet Marrett is founder of Mediathirsty (mediathirsty.co.uk), member of Directors UK and BAFTA Connect; an award-winning writer director of independent films.
She completed HETV Script Editor training at NFTS Cymru Wales, covering Script Editing for both development and production. Proofing and issuing amends using Final Draft, writing and collating script notes and creating script reports, working with writers and production companies.
In 2023, she completed BFI NETWORK funded short RETURNED; Psychologist Zoe yearns for re-connection. Starring Michelle Greenidge (KAOS, Doctor Who, It’s A Sin, I May Destroy You, Small Axe), Max Fincham & Jeffery Kissoon. The feature treatment for RETURNED was selected for development by Torino Film Lab.
Her first three indie shorts, KINDRED, CLEARING & ASUNDER screened internationally, winning several awards, including Best Director for ASUNDER at We Make Movies International in Los Angeles in 2022, also thrice Best Short Film, twice Best International Short Film, four Best Actor, a Platinum & 2 Gold REMI’s.
She’s had amazing HETV apprenticeships on Slow Horses (See-Saw Films), Boarders (Studio Lambert) and War of the Worlds (Urban Myth Films).
In 2022, Mediathirsty facilitated a screenwriting lab supported by the British Council, for emerging underrepresented screenwriters. As a judge for the lab, she read and assessed script submissions.
In her history of developing screenplays, Janet has:
- Completed a HETV Development & Production Script Editor course at NFTS
- Produced industry-standard script reports
- Workshopped materials through development labs, including those hosted by – Torino Film Lab, NFTS, Sundance Collab, Channel 4, BBC, BFI NETWORK, BAFTA, Film London & B3Media.
- Produced award winning, internationally selected short films
- Successfully pitched for BFI NETWORK funding
- 15 years+ copy editing experience
- Curated an internationally collaborative screenwriting workshop between the UK and Ghana, supported by The British Council.
- Been nominated for screenwriting awards (Women X, UK & WMM Int’l, Los Angeles)
- Programmed and judged submissions for film festivals (Mill Valley, Los Angeles & World Cinema Film Festival, UK)
