About

Writer, interested in opportunities to collaborate, develop new work and share it with audiences. Mainly writing for theatre and audio, with experience of creating outdoor theatre and work for unusual spaces, I have a fascination with science and a desire to see more women’s stories on stage.

My play 'Morveren', about mermaids and matriarchy, is being produced by Marvellous Machine Theatre Company at Baron's Court Theatre (London), The Old Fire Station (Oxford) and The Space Arts (Isle of Dogs) in 2023. We're delighted to have received ACE funding, as we work towards making this an outdoor, community production on the South West coast; if you can help make that happen, get in touch!

One of a team of writers creating family audio adventure 'Who Ate All the Pies?' for REcreate, I've also been part of an interactive audio experiment with Big Telly Theatre (Northern Ireland), 'Play It By Ear'. It's been fascinating exploring the possibilities of audio and I'd love to do more.

Last year, I was commissioned to create a solo play marking the 50th anniversary of the Harrow rail crash, about African American nurse Lieutenant Abbie Sweetwine and her role in creating the modern paramedic. Having recently finished my ACE-funded Develop Your Creative Practice programme on digital and interactive theatre, I'm excited about the possibilities of using technology to share stories and bring theatre to new audiences.

I very much enjoyed being part of Criterion New Writing, a programme led by Greg Mosse designed to teach playwrights how to write for larger stages, and look forward to the CNW Story Development workshops. Collaborating with a climate change expert, I created a half hour response to their work as part of Rising Tides' 'Good COP, Bad COP' festival at The Space Arts. My play 'In it together' imagined different scenarios for our future society based on our present decisions, and was performed at The Space and livestreamed. Working with Chronic Insanity and Lou Corben, we made 'Masqued', a live digital theatre experiment, performed on Instagram and inspired by Edgar Allen Poe.

In summer 2021, I made outdoor theatre piece 'Car Wash' for streets in Coventry during its year as City of Culture, commissioned by Talking Birds and accessible for D/deaf audiences. My piece 'Her (r)age' about protest, ageing and invisibility was featured in the second Light On Showcase and is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgKIaw8RYGQ. I was longlisted for Vaults FIVE with my solo play 'Model, 22' and by BOLD Playwrights.

In 2020, I was longlisted for Box of Tricks Theatre’s Screen/Play Award, had monologue ‘Penguins’ played on RadioReverb (Brighton) and co-wrote/directed ‘Leaving it’ for the Virtual Collaborators festival (in which groups of artists worked remotely to produce a new piece of theatre).

My play "Shed" was in the top 15% of scripts received by the BBC Script Room Drama in 2019 and my screenplay treatment "Heartlands" was shortlisted for the 25th Annual Euroscript Screenwriting Competition. I was also one of the writers selected to workshop my idea with students for the "Write the girl" project, designed to develop meaningful stories for large casts that engage young women.

I've had short plays staged at Theatre503 (in the Rapid Write Response to "Br'er Cotton"), Southwark Playhouse, the Pleasance and the Arcola Theatre and my first audio drama, "Devil's Rock" written for Big Finish Productions, was released in 2017. I was longlisted for The Old Vic 12 scheme in 2016 and commissioned to write two site-specific plays for the MAZE festival with Sheer Drop Theatre; I was also one of the six writers of Fun Palaces' WriteScience pieces. In 2015, I was shortlisted for the Euroscript Story competition and a finalist in the RED Women Theatre Awards, who staged a rehearsed reading of my work at Greenwich Theatre.
