Dean Leon Anderson is a London-based writer and director. Trained by BAFTA nominated film director Yann Demange (’71, Top Boy), Dean has premiered work at some of the most prestigious film festivals. Both Grace (2014) and Ribbon (2015) premiered at the BAFTA qualifying London Short Film Festival, while Dean’s recent short film Class 15 (2016) premiered at two Oscar qualifying film festivals; Encounters Film Festival in the UK and Urbanworld Film Festival in the United States. Dean’s short film Jasper (2015) screened at over 40 festivals and events, including the BFI Southbank, and was nominated Best Narrative Short at the Oscar qualifying Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles, and Best Foreign Short by San Francisco Black Film Festival. In 2015, Dean was selected from thousands of applicants to take part in the B3 Media TalentLab programme where he developed the short film Class 15. The final script was only one of three projects to get through to the third phase to receive production funding from ScreenSkills. The film starred Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Top Boy, Doctor Who). In 2017, Dean was selected for the Encounters Shorts To Features Training Scheme run by BFI NETWORK Talent Executive Alice Cabanas. Dean is currently in development on two feature films. He is working once again with B3 Media on a feature length version of Class 15, and is also writing a feature film drama about the late boxer Joe Walcott. BAFTA nominated producer Carl Schoenfeld is producing both. Dean has recently directed promos for some of the biggest brands, including Virgin, Microsoft, Kiss FM and the West End Musical Kinky Boots. Such talent he has worked with includes Denzel Washington, Usher, Lily Allen, Beverley Knight, and David Walliams. Dean was chosen for the Filmmaker of Focus panel at Encounters Film Festival in September 2018.
