About
Kim is a freelance writer for the screen and stage. Her crime drama TV Pilot The Watcher was one of six winners of the Netflix and Sky Screenwriters' Fellowship 2021 and finalist for the BBC Studios ScriptWorks and Thousand Films Scriptwriting competition 2021.
Kim's second play My Brother's Keeper was shortlisted for The Women's Prize for Playwriting 2020 with EKP and Paines Plough and longlisted for the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2019.
Her commissioned short film No Entry, a drama on the Windrush Injustice, was officially selected in over 16 film festivals across the world as well as a few art galleries including the V&A in London. BAFTA/Academy and Canadian Screen Award Qualifying film festivals include BlackStar Film Festival 2021 and American Black Film Festival and Montreal International Black Film Festival 2022 . It has WON three major awards including Best Student Film, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography. It is currently screening on American Airlines in-flight entertainment package 2023-24 and on Soleil Space - a new platform prioritising independent filmmakers and stories about people of colour.
Her script The Draft, a sci-fi short about Friendship and Motherhood, won the EQUAL short screenplay competition 2020 by ProcamTV and the Farm Group. The Draft gained full funding and was shot on a Virtual Production stage at Garden Studios London. It had a successful festival run, winning two Best SciFi Short film awards and being selected for Academy/BAFTA Flicker's genre sidebar VORTEX SciFi Film Festival 2023. It was selected by Sky & Gunpowder sci-fi streamer DUST and is currently free to view on DUST Youtube channel.
The Draft proof-of-concept short film is being developed into a feature.
Kim's scripts reflect a clear interest in family, social issues, women’s rights and mental health. Her genre of choice is drama but she enjoys blending the genre with crime thriller, supernatural, sci-fi and comedy. Kim has long and short form projects across these genres.
