Following the success of last year’s inaugural ScreenSkills Select Congress, places can now be booked for the second annual Congress on Wednesday 23 March 2022 (9.30am to 4.30pm). We are delighted to announce that the first of our expert speakers will be Sir Peter Bazalgette who is currently the Non-Executive Chairman of ITV and industry co-Chair of the Creative Industries Council.

The Congress will be hosted on a dedicated online event platform with places available to be booked on this page. Places are free for educators from ScreenSkills Select endorsed courses as part of the benefits of endorsement.

The theme for the must-attend event for any university, college or vocational educators teaching on courses in film, TV, games, animation and VFX is Re-writing the rules: talent and global content.

This will focus on how the rapid changes in the world of the screen industries necessitate a fresh outlook and new skills for students so they can progress successfully into the workplace. In particular, the Congress will support the essential role educators play in preparing their students for this newly emerging future.

ScreenSkills Select is the industry-led scheme showcasing courses that best prepare students for successful careers in the screen industries. Its annual Congress brings industry and education together to discuss critical skills needs alongside the current challenges and opportunities faced in the UK screen industries.

Congress 2022 will build on the huge success of this year’s event where over 170 educators heard the latest industry intelligence directly from a range of award-winning experts from the UK’s screen industries. The feedback for Congress 2021 included:

  • 100% of delegates were either satisfied/very satisfied with the calibre of the speakers
  • 94% were either satisfied/very satisfied with the content of the Congress
  • 86% would recommend a future ScreenSkills Select Congress to someone else and 80% stated they had gained new knowledge

While we are currently finalising the great range of speakers that will take part, the programme will follow last year’s successful format of keynote addresses, case studies (academic and industry), panel discussions and breakout sessions.

If educators would like to take part in the Congress, for example, as a moderator for one of the Congress sessions, they can contact the ScreenSkills Select team by emailing select@screenskills.com  with “Congress 2022” in the subject line.

Tim Weiss, Director of Vocational Skills at ScreenSkills, said: “Following the success of the inaugural ScreenSkills Select Congress last year, we are delighted to now be able to accept bookings for this year’s event in March.

“With changes in the hugely successful screen industries moving apace as ever and even more so as a result of the pandemic, it is vital that educators hear the latest insights and intelligence from industry experts. This will help them with the content of their courses and better prepare their students for their careers ahead.

“The collaborative approach between employers and educators has always been and continues to be crucial to the positive growth and future-proofing of the UK’s screen industries. The Congress provides a fantastic opportunity to once again bring both together to forge the future in partnership.

“The Congress also provides educators with a real opportunity to keep abreast of all the latest developments and trends for their own professional development and to network with fellow practitioners and industry colleagues. It is the must-attend event for educators teaching in any roles involving film, TV, games, animation and VFX.”
