Experience

  1. Video Editor/ 3D Generalist

    GoPlay Studios · Jul 2021 - Present

Working at GoPlay studios, I was in charge of editing “The Fresh Out the Box Challenge”, an episodic web-show in which my role as a video editor is integral to ensuring the narrative runs smoothly and the episodes are delivered on time. The show is filmed using a free form multi-camera set-up, meaning I am often left with hours of footage to sift through and re-organise into a concise 25-minute piece that retains information and humour while also having a dynamic pace to avoid losing the audience. I also had to respond and adapt to notes from the producers of the show at every point in the process, which meant modifying and streamlining my approach to allow for efficient changes. I was also responsible for designing all of the intros, titles and graphical elements for the show, utilizing both 2D and 3D techniques to create a consistent look and theme for the production. Quick turnarounds meant all graphics had to be made as modular templates that could be edited easily in future, and altered by others at different points in the pipeline who may otherwise not be familiar with design. For these I used Premiere Pro, After Effects and Blender, depending on the needs of the shot. During my time at the studio, I have also been involved in the creation of several music videos for the release of an upcoming EP. Each video has had a distinct style and production. Some of which I have been involved in from conception to final product, others have required me to work with footage shot by others months, or even years ago. The production of “Dusty Knees” required an intricate balance of editing, animation and compositing and a shared vision of the final product that had to be considered when shooting. These measures ensured the video could be created within a very short amount of time on no budget to the standard the musician expected.

  2. Writer/Director

    Screenlife UK · Jul 2020 - Present

I worked with Screenlife UK & Bazelevs to edit a proof-of-concept for a feature film, which took place entirely within a computer screen. The editing process on this production was incredibly technical, and required the intricate organization of screen recordings, animated elements, vector graphics and GoPro footage to create the illusion of the story taking place entirely within a computer screen. During the process, I had to respond and adapt to studio feedback, which often called for large changes to the story that had to be completed within a matter of days, sometimes even hours. I was responsible for organizing all of these elements and pacing them to effectively tell a story, understanding the significance of small mouse movements or pauses to elicit emotion and strengthen the story through the edit. I also had to spend a significant amount of time creating vector graphics and faithful recreations of well known apps and websites to allow full control of animation, and allow for any composition without losing resolution.

  3. Assistant Art Director

    Untold Studios · Jun 2020 - Jun 2020

While I initially joined the production as an assistant art director, due to the nature of the production I found myself filling a number of other roles. I spent one day on-set managing a huge group of SA's, communicating the director’s vision to them as he relayed it to me via walkie-talkie. This required me to be a strong leader in order to get a crowd of excitable people to do what was needed for the shot. I worked alongside the art director to create a variety of sets according to a collective vision, which involved being able to source materials from a variety of locations and also do a lot of hands-on work around the set.

  4. Videographer/Video Editor

    Clapperboard UK · Mar 2019 - Mar 2020

I worked for Clapperboard UK as a freelance filmmaker, creating videos to promote their BFI Film Academy Course, working with local people to introduce filmmaking to communities and creating short documentaries for the MeToo Project. I also taught Camera operation on their film course and managed the student's productions.
