About
Ali Kurr is a British-Polish director who was named an ‘Emerging Brit’ by the National Youth Film Academy. With an award winning background in commercials and music videos since 2012 Ali has directed a wide range of talent from Bollywood icons including Ranbir Kapoor to Netflix breakout star Simone Ashley (Bridgeton, Sex Education). Ali’s first short, an acute retelling of two lovers on holiday, ‘Sparrow’, starring Simone Ashley and Catriona Stirling (Department Q, We Were the Lucky Ones), opened BFI Flare’s ‘Calm Before the Storm’ screening and won at Underwire festival. Her music videos for artists including Loyle Carner, Poppy Ajudha and Connie Constance have seen her nominated at the UK Music Video awards and named one of ‘Vevo’s One To Watch’. In 2020 she was asked to direct two adverts for Sport England’s acclaimed ‘This Girl Can’, which saw her win a prestigious D&AD wood pencil. Recently, Ali has written and directed videos for Rina Sawayama’s ‘Hold The Girl’ album, with her queer-poly-pop-mash-up of a film ‘The Hell’ being nominated at the 2022 MTV VMAs and was a 2023 Young Guns Finalist.
