*UPDATE: Following the recent Government announcement of a new national lock down from 5th November, the Veterans in Focus 2020: locations department taster session on Saturday 7th November will now take place as a virtual event on Zoom. Those who have already booked tickets will receive confirmation of the update via email, along with joining instructions. Places are still available to book on both sessions.

ScreenSkills, the industry-led skills body for the UK’s screen industries, is once again offering an amazing 3-week locations training  opportunity to UK armed forces veterans*.

This programme, in association with The National Film and Television School and Services to Film is supported by ScreenSkills using National Lottery funds awarded by the BFI as part of the Future Film Skills programme. A taster session will launch the programme, with a choice of opportunities to participate:

  • remotely, via Zoom, on Friday 6th November (a recording will be made available on request for those unable to join live) or
  • in person at The National Film and Television School, Beaconsfield on Saturday 7th November.

During the application process, you will be asked to select your preferrred day to attend.

Who it's for

*This opportunity is open exclusively to UK armed forces veterans. Technical, mechanical or engineering skills would be an asset, but are not a requirement. In the UK a military veteran is defined as anyone who has drawn one day's pay from the Armed Forces. We welcome veterans from all backgrounds.

What it covers

These 'day in the life of….’ taster sessions offer an exclusive, behind-the-scenes insight into the work of the locations department, which helps to find, contract and manage film locations during filming.

The full day sessions will also include an introduction to the film industry and the different departments typically involved in working on a production. Time will be allowed for questions and breaks will be schedued throughout the day.

After attending a taster session (either live or remotely), attendees will be invited to apply for one of 8 places on a 3-week locations training course that includes one-to-one support to secure employment or work experience in the industry.

Training will take place at NFTS in Beaconsfield in Jan/Feb 2021
