Step up to Film Production Accountant

This programme will support assistant production accountants in their transition to the production accountant role and enable them to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to step up.

It will also seek to support new production accountants and help increase their confidence and broaden their knowledge – filling any skills gaps that they may have as they have stepped up.

During this training participants will:

• gain clear insight and understanding of the role and responsibilities of the production accountant
• be tutored and guided by experienced and established production accountants/financial controllers.

This training is supported by ScreenSkills using National Lottery funds awarded by the British Film Institute (BFI) as part of the Future Film Skills programme.

Who it's for

This course is designed for experienced assistant production accountants working in film who wish to progress their careers to the next level and aims to support their transition to production accountant positions in the film sector.

What it covers

The course will commence on Saturday 17 April 2021, and run across five Saturdays. They will run from 9.30 am - 5pm. In addition there will be a couple of 1 hour sessions in the evenings and/or lunchtime. 

This training scheme will build upon existing knowledge with newly acquired skills, taught by established and leading financial controllers/production accountants, and will cover:

• the role of the production accounting
• accounting software
• insurance and taxation
• payroll and contracting
• Movie Magic Budgeting
• filing and petty cash
• VAT and tax relief
• people management
• Covid responsibilities 
• mental health awareness.  

At the end of the course, each participant will also receive 3 hours of coaching from a respected industry film production accountant or financial controller. Guidance and support will be also be given from tutors, the Production Guild and their peers.
