This modular course is designed to teach post-production coordinators (PPCs) and supervisors (PPSs) about film picture and sound workflows and feel more confident in their ability to manage this important part of their work.
As post supervisors come from a wide variety of backgrounds, basic mistakes can be made that originally stem from lack of access to information or experience.
This course is designed to address these gaps and provide critical access to knowledge that can make a difference in our ability to plan workflows, budget and schedule, plus improve our day to day operations and relationships with the creatives and technical people in the cutting room.
This course has been developed as a collaboration between Post Super, a resource for post supervisors and Ravensbourne University London, a creative industries’ focussed media and design university.
This course is for post supervisors and coordinators who are looking for additional training in sound and picture workflow. This course is designed to support the post supervisor’s role in managing this area of post production.
The full course is split into three modules to allow different PPCs and PPSs to enter at the correct level for them. You will do a questionnaire upfront to help us determine your suitability for the course and filter you into the correct level. You will then have the option to complete either 1 or 2 modules, depending on demand.
Level one: This module will touch on cutting room etiquette and explain the breakdown of roles/hierarchy within the sound and picture departments, plus we will look at how the post-production team interacts with them.
Level two: In this module we build on level one and start to introduce picture standards - SDR, HDR, Dolby Vision and then Sound Standards - 5.1, Atmos, stereo.
Level three: Again, elaborating on level one and two, we move everything up to an advanced level and teach how to establish a technical workflow with a DIT/DOP/Sound/Dallies company, look at how to anticipate picture and sound problems using workflow roundtrip testing, this includes a VFX workflow.
Per module there are 2 x 15 minute tests after each of the live lectures. If you pass both the tests, you will be able to download a certificate as evidence of your learning.
To apply, please email Post Super and they will forward a link directly to the application form and assessment questionnaire.
This training is supported by ScreenSkills using National Lottery funds awarded by the British Film Institute (BFI) as part of the Future Film Skills programme.
Post Super is a new venture designed to help freelancers post producers, supervisors and coordinators working in film and high end television by creating a fully searchable knowledge base.
