This three-module course covers all the essentials for building your confidence as a PD in factual TV.  The course consists of 3 x 1.45 minute sessions

What it covers

PD Boot Camp Session 1: with Sarah Kerley-Burton and Jo Woolf

What makes a good producer-director (PD)?  What are all the different roles a PD might be expected to undertake?  And how do you make sure you're the best possible PD you can be?

This module will cover all the different hats you need to wear as a PD (shooting and with crew) and will also go through shoot planning and how to write a comprehensive shooting script - the essential preparation document for any PD.

PD Boot Camp Session 2: with Sarah Kerley-Burton

Shooting and Coverage Essentials

This module will use a variety of clips to illustrate the dos and don'ts of shooting.  Common scenarios that PDs will often have to cover within factual TV programmes will be discussed, with clear examples of how to cover them well.

Series PD Sarah will explain what shots are needed in the edit, and how best to get these shots - both as a self-shooter and if directing a camera-person.

PD Boot Camp Session 3: with Jo Woolf

Interview techniques and How to Adapt your PD style to suit different genres.

This module will unpack the fine art of interviewing and will explore different interviewing techniques.  We will also look at how different types of factual TV shows require different types of producing and directing, and how to moderate your skillset according to the production needs and genre.
