How TV offered viewers comfort in a crisis: Making Devon and Cornwall & The Yorkshire Dales
Nostalgic, gentle, cheering, the kind of shows that make you feel warm and cosy inside, especially in times of crisis. There is an art to making comfort TV. In this making of... masterclass, executive producer Christian Hills from True North will take us behind the scenes of Channel 4's Devon and Cornwall and More4's Yorkshire Dales and The Lakes to show us how it is done. He will discuss the mechanics of making both series plus some of the challenges faced along the way.
Time will be allowed at the end of the session for Q & A.
Christian Hills' career at True North spans 12 years and has seen him rise through the ranks from assistant producer to executive producer.
His broadcasting career began in Granada TV’s sports department and has also seen him work for ITV and BBC in current affairs, factual entertainment and documentaries.
While at True North he’s made everything from single hours to multiple series and highlights include award winning documentaries Stealing Shakespeare and My New Hand, both for BBC One.
Shows currently on his slate as executive producer include Devon and Cornwall for Channel 4, The Yorkshire Dales and The Lakes and Building The Dream for More4 and The Pets Factor for CBBC.
