It’s jargon-free and perfect for people who hate spreadsheets but want to be more business-like and organised.

What it covers

• Budgeting and keeping on top of record keeping.
• How money works for the three different types of creative freelancer.
• Understanding tax and NI.
• How to get paid on time.
• Financial planning and behaving like a business.

You will receive downloadable templates and help sheets after the session.

Speaker

David Thomas

David's training work is focused on communications, broadcasting and business skills. He specialises in financial, organisational and networking skills for freelancers and small businesses.

He is a highly experienced broadcaster and manager, involved in radio and online production for more than 30 years, mostly with the BBC.

David set up David Thomas Media Ltd in 2005 to work with freelancers in the creative industries who would rather hide under the duvet than open a spreadsheet, or who would run a mile rather than go to a 'networking opportunity'.

Since then he has worked with thousands of freelancers and staff setting up on their own, or going through redundancy. His aim is to help them develop their organisational skills, communicate more effectively and not lose sight of the things they love about their work.

This event is supported by the ScreenSkills Television Skills Fund which invests in training for the freelance television workforce thanks to contributions from the BBC, Channel 4, ITV, and Channel 5.

It is part of a ScreenSkills programme managed by the Indie Training Fund to support freelancers to upskill and stay connected, helping keep the industry resilient in these difficult times.

This session will take place online via Zoom. Click ‘get ticket’ to reserve your place: you must login or register before you are able to get a ticket for this event. A booking confirmation with a joining link to the session will be sent to you via email.

If you are no longer able to use your ticket, we ask you to please contact support@screenskills.com  so that we can release your place. Our sessions are often oversubscribed, so we’d like to give other freelancers the opportunity to fill available spots. Thank you for your consideration.
