Who should attend: those with some experience of DaVinci Resolve, or who have completed the Introduction to DaVinci Resolve course, DITs, early career colourists, video editors, and DOPs who want to learn about camera-to-colour workflows.

What you will learn: this five-day course is for those who want to learn about colour and gain Blackmagic Design's "Colour Grading with DaVinci Resolve" certification.

The course will also suit those who want to learn about the Sony camera to Resolve colour pipelines. Trainees will get to use Sony’s CineAlta Cinema Line cameras (the award-winning Burano, and Venice 1 and 2), as well as the Sony FX series cinema cameras. Trainees will capture their own footage to colour grade at the legendary Pinewood Studios, London.

Course content:

  • An overview from Sony on using their Cinema Line cameras
  • Colour theory and how it applies to the controls in DaVinci Resolve
  • Launching DaVinci Resolve project files and restoring archives
  • Normalising, balancing, and matching footage
  • Analysing and colour correcting images with the help of scopes
  • Primary and secondary grading operations including the Color Warper, Magic Mask and HDR tools
  • Tracking people and objects with windows and the magic mask
  • Migrating XML timelines and roundtrip workflows
  • Preparing projects for film and television with colour management
  • Working with nodes to create sophisticated grades
  • Capturing X-OCN RAW and XAVC footage on the Sony Cinema Line cameras
  • Colour grading high dynamic range Sony X-OCN RAW footage
  • Managing and copying grades with stills, versions, and ‘ColorTrace’
  • Creating groups to streamline and organise your workflow
  • Using plug-ins to repair, enhance, and stylise images
  • Render cache and delivery settings for optimal quality
  • Colour grading with DaVinci Resolve 18 Certification Exam

Training approach: the workshops are delivered in person at Sony, Pinewood Studios, London. Trainees will develop their skills in DaVinci Resolve with real footage, and have time for Q and A’s at the end of each task.

Trainees will have an opportunity to keep their camera footage to use for their showreels.

Class size: small class sizes, no more than 12 attendees.

Free parking and refreshments are provided. Subsidised lunch is available at Pinewood Studio's staff canteen.
