About the programme
Extended opening to 28th June. The ScreenSkills Mentoring Programme seeks to support mentees from underrepresented groups, as well as tackling skills gaps as identified by BFI and ScreenSkills research. We focusing on applications from people based outside London and the South East, and people returning to the industry after a break. This could include returning after parental or sick leave, time away for caring responsibilities, after working in a non-screen industry job or due the impact of Covid on the screen industry.
Mentoring is a personal and professional development partnership in which a mentor shares their experience and knowledge with a mentee who wants to grow and progress: it’s a two-way confidential partnership of development, dialogue, learning and challenge. The ScreenSkills Mentoring Programme runs across all sectors of the screen industry- film, television, animation, VFX and games- and across the UK. For more mentoring information and resources please visit the ScreenSkills mentoring page.
Before proceeding, please confirm the following:
- I am based outside of London and the South East
- I am seeking mentoring in behind the camera roles. Please note that we cannot match those in front of camera roles, including actors and performers. Due to demand we are not currently offering mentoring in writing.
- I have taken the mentoring for mentees e-learning module
- Mentoring partnerships take place for six hours over six months.
- Once you are matched you will be offered guidance and support to ensure you are able to give and get the best from mentoring.
- We may not be able to fulfill all your mentoring preferences, as all our mentors are volunteers
- Please note that, due to the high number of applicants, we are not able to find suitable mentors for everyone
- Mentoring interactions may need to take the form of remote meetings depending on what the mentee and mentor are comfortable with
- The mentoring programme is only open to those currently resident in the UK and who expect to be resident in the UK for the duration of the partnership
Matched mentees will be asked to do the following:
1. Complete mentoring agreement by the deadline set
2. Contact their mentor within five working days of being introduced to their mentor by email
3. Drive meetings and inform the mentoring team of any issues and or reasons as to why the mentoring cannot take place
4. Be responsive and proactive towards both the mentor and ScreenSkills
Please note that ScreenSkills reserves the right to terminate the partnership following three failed attempts by the mentor or ScreenSkills mentoring team to contact the mentee

The ScreenSkills Mentoring Programme is accepting new applications until Tuesday, 21st of June, 2022, or until 200 applications have been received. Please note that we cannot guarantee a mentoring match for all applicants. The programme remains open to mentors.
If you do identify a mentor yourself and you both agree to form a mentoring partnership and would like the support of ScreenSkills, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we can include you and your mentor in our programme and support you with training and resources. You will need the agreement of your mentor in order to join.
