Prime Video Pathway, Amazon Prime, in collaboration with the National Film and Television School (NFTS), is offering an expanded suite of free online and in-person training opportunities for television freelancers nationwide in 2026. The initiative will offer comprehensive support across the regions, roles, departments, and genres, reinforcing a commitment to support freelancers build a portfolio and digital career in increasingly challenging times.
The ReSkill and UpSkill pilot was shaped by feedback from an 844survey responses from freelancers across the UK. Engagement was particularly strong among seasoned industry professionals, with 57% of respondents working in television for more than 11 years—a clear signal of the demand for professional development during such a demanding time for all freelancers.
Survey findings highlighted a significant appetite for training in emerging and high-growth areas, including generative AI, podcasting, and digital skills.
The five-week virtual pilot delivered from mid-October to November, provided 463 free training places on one day short courses.
In addition, free face-to-face training was delivered to freelancers identified as being most in need, with sessions held in Cardiff, London, Leeds and Glasgow. This in-person programme was designed for TV freelancers with more than three years of industry experience who had faced a period of four months or more without work in the past year.
ReSkill and UpSkill returns in 2026
Building on this momentum, ReSkill and UpSkill will return in 2026 with more free, face-to-face training programmes designed specifically for freelancers most in need. Applications for the in-person training will open on 12 December 2025. TV Freelancers: Reskill & Upskill Programme | NFTS
Across each location, a maximum 15 successful participants will receive:
- Support to create a personalised development plan
- Nine days of in-person training covering podcasting, digital storytelling and AI
- The option to access three hours of one-to-one coaching
- Ongoing guidance and tailored support
In addition, an expanded programme of virtual day courses and webinars will also run from Monday 19 January to Friday 27 February 2026, offering even more training across generative AI, podcasting, and digital skills as well as introducing new sessions, including an introduction to self-shooting and directing.
To meet the exceptionally high demand, the 2026 schedule will include:
- Two-day sessions in generative AI, podcasting, and digital skills
- Additional Saturday sessions
- Waitlists for fully booked courses
- 14 webinars across the six-week delivery period

New Prime Video Pathway Initiatives for 2025
Beyond the flagship freelancer programmes, the additional £2.2M investment will support:
1. Senior Talent Development:
- Year-long step-up opportunities for six under-represented executive producers in unscripted content with leading production companies including Workerbee, Story Films, Studio Lambert, Optomen, Fremantle UK and Initial
- Sponsorship of the nationwide Wonder Women 2026 Mentoring Programme for 31 mid-career women and its Wonder Women Live event held in Manchester during International Women’s Week in March 2026.
2. Mid-Career Pipelines and Skills Gaps:
- A practical "Afro Hair – On Set" course in Scotland with the world-renowned Kevin Fortune Hair Styling Academy and the NFTS Scotland’s Sean Connery Talent Lab. Eight hair stylists attended the practical one-week course in September 2025.
- Support for BIFA's Springboard for 30 second-time feature filmmakers (writers, directors and producers)
3. New Entrant Talent:
- Major funding for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland including support for Europe's only 3-year vocational training course for Deaf actors and care leaving bursaries for students on other courses, plus support for outreach in schools and bursaries for final year students to enable them to take up work experience opportunities.

- NFTS Production Coordinator apprentices in the North and London (8 apprentices)
- NFTS Prime Video Scripted Directors Workshop (6 emerging directors)
- The Grierson DocLab Archive Producers training programme (8 archive producers)
- Financial support for the London Screen Academy - the UK's only free sixth form academy dedicated to screen industries
- Sheffield DocFest Film-Maker Challenge (6 unscripted directors)
- The TV Collective Breakthrough Leaders programme, which collectively aims to develop diverse talent across different sectors of the industry (50 senior black and global majority talent) (supports alongside other partners)
- The NFTS Unscripted Development Diploma year-long weekly night school to learn all the basics of development from brainstorm through deck and sizzle to pitch (16 emerging talent)
- NFTS Scotland’s Sean Connery Talent Lab (24 producers, directors, writers, hair and makeup artists) (supports alongside other partners).
