Film professionals will soon be able to benefit from more online courses. The training – supported by the BFI awarding National Lottery funding and the ScreenSkills Film Skills Fund – will be specially adapted to support the workforce during Covid-19.

The fundamentals of furloughing – Guidance on the UK’s Covid-19 Job Retention Scheme
Ceri Stoner and Seth Roe of Wiggin LLP will discuss the ins and outs of the UK government’s Covid-19 Job Retention Scheme for employers and employees. The session, intended for both employees and employers, will cover the policy rationale behind the scheme, how it operates, who is eligible and exactly what can be claimed. Ceri and Seth will also provide insights into some of the trickier aspects of the scheme and share their experience of its application in practice to the television and film sector.

The UK’s Self-Employed Income Support Scheme – Guidance on the support available for the winners and the losers
The recently announced Self-Employed Income Support Scheme (SEISS) was a result of significant pressure to support the many self-employed freelancers in the UK. Freelancers will learn how the scheme works and who is expected to benefit. This session will explore which requirements must be met to be eligible and what options are available for those who aren’t eligible.

Film freelancers first aid kit
This series of four workshops is designed to provide information and practical advice during lockdown. The workshops will be led by Alison Grade, author of the Freelance Bible. She will be joined by other expert speakers. Topics covered will include financial and tax guidance, networking during lockdown, preparing yourself to be best positioned to find the work you want when the industry starts up again, what support there is out there at the moment and redeploying your skills in the short term. This remote afro hair and make-up course will give professionals the opportunity to learn the most traditional and latest afro hair techniques. The course focuses on afro hairstyles and make-up for both men and women.
Unconscious bias training
The unconscious bias training developed by ScreenSkills with the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) is designed to help experienced professionals in British film recognise and mitigate against subliminal biases taking into account a variety of factors such as genre and diversity.

Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting
Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting is the recognised industry standard software for scheduling and budgeting films and TV drama. Professionals working in production – in particular, emerging producers, line producers, production managers, accountants and emerging 1st ADs – will be able to increase their understanding of the software.
Self-leadership
This online training programme will help freelance creatives working in the film industry improve their leadership skills.
Script editing for film
This training initiative will explore what script editing is all about and give practical tips on producing effective script reports
Art department skills
These sessions will examine the different roles within the art department. They will also provide advice and guidance on collaborating effectively within the art department, working on mid- to large-scale productions and budgeting.
