RTS Awards wins for Skills Fund contributors

There were big wins for Skills Fund contributors at this year’s Royal Television Society (RTS) Awards. Hosted by comedian Tom Allen at London’s JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel, the event celebrated the best of British television from the past 12 months with the ceremony representing a gold standard of achievement in the TV industry.

Nine productions that contributed to the High-end TV Skills Fund were awarded with Alma’s Not Normal being the biggest winner of the night, picking up three awards from each of its three nominations. The hit BBC comedy collected the prize for Comedy Drama, while the show’s writer and lead actor Sophie Willan picked up both the Comedy Performance - Female and Writer - Comedy prizes.

The adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s Rivals received two awards with Danny Dyer being awarded in the Supporting Actor - Male category and the show also winning in the Writer - Drama category. Jessica Gunning won the supporting actor female award for her role in the runaway hit, Baby Reindeer, while fellow Fund contributors Mr Loverman, Changing Ends and Boarders each picked up awards.

City-based series Industry won the award for Drama Series, Things You Should Have Done beat out stiff competition to win the Scripted Comedy award and there was a special judges prize for Ruth Jones and James Cordon’s hugely successful Gavin and Stacey.

Production companies that paid into the Unscripted TV Skills Fund were also awarded. Whisper won two awards for its coverage of the Paris Paralympics, winning both the Sports Programme and Sports Presenter categories. Candour Productions (Documentary Series), Lifted (Entertainment Performance), South Shore Productions (Formatted Popular Factual Series) and Minnow Films (History) all took home awards alongside fellow contributors Studio Lambert (Entertainment). There were also wins for the Fund’s partnering companies with BBC, Channel 4, ITV, Sky and Netflix each picking up an accolade.
