About
Esther has been awarded the Leaders of Tomorrow Screenskills bursary 2026. She is looking for further B camera operator opportunities, and looking for step ups to 2nd Unit DOP. Please see her attached CV for her experience in these roles. Alternatively, she is able to join a drama being placed in the lighting team. She has done Sparking dailies on dramas such as Netflix's RunAway, and slotted right in having experience rigging lots of lighting. She is looking to continue to develop with her lighting, operating, and Doping opportunities. She was nominated for the Leaders of tomorrow bursary by Producer Nadia Jaynes (Her credits include Boat Story, Marcella, The Responder, Big Mood)
Esther's referee Producer Pippa Brown said - "Esther would be a perfect candidate for the Leaders of Tomorrow programme - an opportunity and support she wholeheartedly deserves. I have had the pleasure of working directly with her on several occasions, and she consistently impresses me with her talent, work ethic, and determination. Esther has the grit, stamina, temperament, and passion required to progress successfully into a Head of Department role in HETV. Now is absolutely her time to shine, and I would love to see her receive the support she so truly deserves through this wonderful initiative.I’ve worked with Esther several times in her role as camera operator, including on BBC1’s Am I Being Unreasonable? (Both Series 1 & 2), The Other One etc, and I would always ask for her on any show I was crewing up. Esther Vardy is one of my favourite people to work with- hugely talented, cares deeply about her work, is a joy to have on set, and always striving to deliver more than you thought possible. I honestly cannot speak highly enough of her. I am committed to championing female talent in this industry, and seeing Esther at the top of her game makes me incredibly proud. She deserves the very best opportunities to let her talent shine more. She has proven herself trustworthy and dependable, which is why DOPs have repeatedly asked her to step up and lead Splinter Units. Esther is always willing to go above and beyond — as she did during Am I Being Unreasonable — taking on extra responsibilities without hesitation. She has a true passion for operating, lighting, and filmmaking, with a superb eye for framing and visual storytelling. She’s a strong team player who thrives under pressure without ever losing her composure or focus. With the support of this brilliant programme, I have no doubt that Esther will continue to grow into an exceptional leader and future HOD — one whose voice and vision are invaluable to the continued progress of our industry."Esther is currently a HETV Leader of Tomorrow. Participants in the three- year inclusion programme for mid- level professionals who are nominated by senior colleagues in the high end TV.
