About
Julia is a theatre director with more than 25 years experience, who is moving into the world of film and TV - with particular interested in theatre-film hybrid and multicamera streaming.
With her award-winning theatre company - the Liverpool-based 20 Stories High, Julia was involved in two theatre adaptations for the BBC ("Buttercup", BBC4, as director), and "I told my Mum I was going on an R.E. Trip..." (as writer/producer which premiered on BBC2, and then was selected for festivals including HotDocs Toronto and Underwire London). She also wrote/co-directed "Touchy: Ella and Ste's Story" which won an Offies/Oncomm award 2021.
Her interests are in telling female-focused under-represented stories.
Her work is narrative-driven and visually rich.
She is an instinctive collaborator, with a deep commitment to access and inclusion.
She currently has been awarded a 'Develop Your Creative Practice' grant by Arts Council England to further explore screen-to-stage adaptation and to do some training in multicamera direction.
Other awards include: The Stage 100 for pandemic response 2020, National Theatre Foundation Jenny Harris Award 2016 for work with Young People She was also a finalist in Liverpool City Region Culture & Creativity Awards (People’s Choice Category) 2022
