Born in Manchester 1994, Jake Lyne studied and attained a First Class BA honours in Visual arts at the University of Salford, whilst also exhibiting works across the North West of England.
Lyne is very much inspired by language, action and main stream society. Using text as the backbone of his work, he translates thought provoking and contrasting messages across the varied materials he uses. His approach to making work is direct, sardonic and passive-aggressive as a means to empower the audience to make up their own decisions about the work, the subject matter it's challenging and art in general.
In an image-saturated world of the emotional numb, Lyne very much believes that we do not need to produce more images to change social and cultural aspects, but to challenge the ones that we have now. His practise are examples of redeveloped extracts from the subject matter he takes them from. From song lyrics, words in a conversation, social gestures, sounds and specific imagery – he mixes the mundane with the childish, the social with political and comedy with drama.
