Simon Gill is a boom operator (1st assistant sound) with a plan to eventually become a production sound mixer. Born and raised in the heart of London with a British Indian Father and Italian Mother, Simon started out on on small productions while working for his father at his shop in the East End and studying a law degree. Simon eventually went on to study at the London Film Academy to learn all the disciplines of film production, making award winning short films, but then chose a specialisation with the production sound course at the National Film and Television School. Simon has since established himself professionally in sound departments starting as trainee, second assistant sound and currently first assistant sound. The next step with the help of the ScreenSkills Leaders of Tomorrow programme is to achieve the career goal of becoming a production sound mixer in the near future. Leaders of Tomorrow is a three-year inclusion programme for mid-level professionals. Participants are nominated by senior colleagues in high-end TV. Simon’s nominator Tim Surrey said: "I nominated Simon because he shows a real passion for recording the original audio of a performance on set. He demonstrates a maturity when liaising with other crew members and a willingness to constantly improve."
