Providing access to hair and makeup crews with an inclusive range of skills is a key industry objective.

The Working with textured hair types and make-up for medium to deep skin tones workshop has been designed by BLCKSTR to support the training needs of hair and make-up professionals working in film & TV and is an opportunity for professional artists to build on the practical hair and makeup skills needed when working with people of colour.

Our BLCKSTR workshops address skill gaps and solve real work concerns for individuals and productions.

Applications are invited from hair and makeup professionals working in high-end TV who live and work in Scotland, and are looking to build on their skills in hair and makeup on people of colour. The course will take place in-person this October in Glasgow, Scotland.

During the three-day workshop you will feel more confident about, become more familiar with, and get more practice working on the hair and makeup on people of colour. You will also understand the unconscious biases that exist when working with textured hair and deeper skin tones.

Working with textured hair types and make-up for medium to deep skin tones workshops are taught by experienced industry professionals used to working with diverse casts in film, TV and fashion – their show credits include Queen Charlotte, 3 Little Birds, Small Axe, The Witcher and other award winning TV dramas.

This programme is funded by the ScreenSkills High-end Television Fund made up of contributions from high-end TV productions made in the UK.

Who it's for

Our current workshop is intended for hair and make-up professionals working in HETV, who live and work in Scotland and who can attend training on the specified dates.

We have 20 places in total, so 10 places available for each workshop date. Bursaries are available to help with travel and accommodation.

We are especially interested in supporting HODs and supervisors who are interested in upskilling.

We offer inclusive training. If you have any needs which we can accommodate during the recruitment process and beyond, please let us know and we will be happy to work with you to meet them.
