ScreenSkills Making Virtual Production Real season will kick off with Virtual Production is Production - a beginners guide with Matt Rank, Manager of Virtual Production on the production innovation team at Netflix.

Matt will provide an overview of Virtual Production techniques, discuss how the technology is offering filmmakers new creative opportunities, and offer learnings from both big and complex productions as well as lean and nimble ones.

This will be an online Zoom event taking place on Wednesday 3 November from 10 am - 11 am. Time will be allowed at the end for Q & A.

This session is supported by ScreenSkills using National Lottery funds awarded by the BFI as part of the Future Film Skills programme.

Who it's for

This session is aimed at anyone working in film (or related sectors) with a professional interest in Virtual Production and the opportunities it can bring to the production process.

About the speaker

Throughout his career Matt Rank has supervised digital units on location and worked at Industrial Light & Magic, Framestore and Audiomotion Studios exploring the many disciplines that now make up digital production -from motion and performance capture to volumetric and world capture.

More recently, he has taken his learnings from franchises such as Star Wars, Jurassic World and James Bond, and applied them across features, series and documentaries, big and small at Netflix.

Today, he continues to support the studio’s local slate and helps educate about Virtual Production techniques and best practices across the industry.
