Step up to first time scripted feature film producing is a targeted professional development initiative for 12 experienced film professionals stepping up to feature film producing for the first time.

Delivered by 104 Films, this new edition of the step-up format builds on their highly successful 2023 and 2024 programmes and continues their mission to empower all filmmakers - including those who are disabled or from underrepresented backgrounds - to make the leap into feature film production.

Participants will gain a comprehensive overview of the British independent film landscape through networking, project development, and creative support, designed to get their debut feature off the ground.

If you have any questions or access requirements in order to fill out this form, or would like the application form in another format please contact justin@104films.com.

This training is funded by the ScreenSkills Film Fund with contributions from the UK Film productions.

What it covers

Led by Oscar- and BAFTA-winning producers, the programme features sessions with senior executives from leading UK broadcasters, streamers, and film funding bodies, offering participants direct insight into the processes behind developing and financing feature films in the UK.

Core sessions will include:

  • Developing your first feature – from concept to script to screen
  • Financing the independent film – navigating public funds, co-productions, and private finance
  • Legal, rights, and IP – understanding contracts, clearances, and copyright
  • Working with talent and agents – building and sustaining creative relationships
  • Production management and delivery – schedules, budgets, post, and DCP delivery
  • Marketing and audience strategy – positioning your film in a competitive marketplace
  • Sustainability and accessibility in production – embedding best practice from day one

Participants will also take part in a 'Project Lab', developing their own feature ideas with feedback from peers, tutors, and guest mentors. The programme culminates in a one-to-one mentoring session to identify next steps and routes to market.
