Risk assessment: rise of the machines
This session looks at the benefits and drawbacks of using technology. From creating risk assessments in the traditional way, to the future of AI which might not be quite as simple as it seems.
May contain information you might really need to know about!
As film and TV production embraces digital workflows, risk assessment is evolving from paperwork to pixels - and now prompts. Today, algorithms can scan scripts, predict hazards, and even write mitigation measures faster than most humans can read them. But should they?
This session explores the fascinating intersection between safety, technology and trust - and how technology is reshaping the way we identify, manage, and communicate risk on set.
We’ll trace the journey from traditional templates and online forms to emerging AI tools that claim to “understand” production risk. We’ll look at what’s genuinely useful, and what’s dangerously misleading.
AI can help us work smarter, faster, and with greater consistency - but it can’t replace experience, context, or accountability. We’ll discuss how productions can harness the benefits of technology without losing sight of the human expertise that keeps people safe.
