This Creative directing for animation programme has been designed for mid – senior level animation producers and directors, offering practical advice and insight to the skills needed today to direct creative animation series, shorts and feature-length films.

Supported by the ScreenSkills Animation Skills Fund with contributions from UK animation productions, the programme is delivered by Indielab with leading animation director Tim Searle. The course content will provide practical insight into the role of director in animations including:

  • understanding the roles and responsibilities of a director
  • direction in pre-production, production and post-production process
  • music in animations
  • working with voice actors, sound and storyboards in animation.

Who it's for

This programme is aimed at mid – senior level animation directors and producers who want to develop their animation directing  skillset to meet today’s requirements and deliver their A-game. Applicants can be either freelance or studio-based.

What it covers

Creative directing for animation will run across four consecutive days between 09.30 -13.30,  from Tuesday 18 to Friday 21 June. It will cover:

  • directors role in animation
  • allocation and ownership of responsibilities
  • development and production pipelines
  • directing in pre-production, production and postproduction
  • direction and leadership
  • storyboarding, scripting and pre-viz
