Animation workshop: Stepping up to be an animation production manager

In this animation workshop, hear from a panel of experienced production managers who will share their tips on successfully managing 2D, 3D and stop motion television series and feature films. The discussion will include:

• how to keep productions on schedule
• the best ways to communicate with different departments
• top tips on organising the day-to-day running of a production. 

There will be the opportunity to ask the panel questions at the end of the session via the chat function.

Speakers include Beverly Yeang, Omari McCarthy, Rob Franklin and Tamsin Clay Bee, and the session will be chaired by producer Sueann Rochester from Wild Child Animation.

Speakers

Driven by a love of all things animated and a need to organise things, Sueann Rochester was always destined to be an animation producer. She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a degree in Animation and moved into her first production role at Red Kite Animations. With almost 20 years of experience in long form TV production Sueann has worked with clients including Cartoon Network, Disney, the BBC, and DC Thomson and produced BAFTA and EMMY-nominated shows Dennis & Gnasher and Ask Lara. Her current role as Managing Director of Wild Child Animation is to help shape and grow a world class animation studio in Scotland that produces original IP and 3rd party content. Her goal is to create high quality story driven animation for all ages. 

Originally from Handsworth, Birmingham, Omari McCarthy graduated in 2013 from the BA (HONS) Digital Animation Course at Falmouth University with the goal of becoming a writer/ producer/ showrunner. After moving to London in 2014 he worked as a production assistant and coordinator on several high profile animated projects including Animated Mr Bean (Tiger Aspect/ CITV), Hey Duggee (Studio AKA/ CBeebies), Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed (Jellyfish Pictures/ Beano Studios/ CBBC), 101 Dalmatians Street (Passion Pictures/ Disney Channel), The Tiger Who Came to Tea (Lupus Films/ Channel 4) and as a senior production coordinator at Axis Studios. Omari is currently production manager at KidsCave studios on an unannounced CGI series.  

Beverly Yeang is a highly experienced production manager in 2D and 3D animation production and post-production. Based in London and currently working at Studio AKA, previous roles has seen her on high quality productions such as Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth (Studio AKA/Apple TV+), 101 Dalmatian Street (Passion Pictures/Disney+ TV), Watership Down (Netflix/BBC) and The Amazing World of Gumball (Cartoon Network). Whilst at Studio AKA, she has helped develop their CG pipeline as well as researching software and pipelines for a merchandising workflow. She will soon be starting an exciting new venture at Dog Ears Studio on a new series. 

Rob Franklin has over 15 years experience in the industry and is currently the senior production manager at Gutsy Animations Bristol. He got started as a short form promo producer at Disney’s London office, before moving over into animated short form at Aardman in both Bristol and New York. His producer credits include the award winning Coldplay – Daddy music video as well as a US national ad campaign for the NBA playoffs.

With a love of animation firmly established and a desire to move into long form programming he now manages the series productions at Gutsy.  

Tamsin Clay Bee moved into production management from a background in HR and financial management. She is experienced in managing 2D and 3D animation series, live action shoots and VFX. Having worked in both large and small studios on animated TV series for (CBeebies, Milkshake, CBBC, Sky), and commercial projects. The projects range widely in demands from 60 artists in house, to others working with small teams over 4 countries and timezones. She is currently at Wildseed Studios in Bristol completing the final stages of a new animated 2D series, and working on development projects for major broadcasters.
