This course is spread over two days, please only apply if you can attend both days.

The ScreenSkills Advanced leadership and management workshop is designed for leaders and managers working in unscripted television production management who are ready to build on their existing skills and experience.

Delivered as an interactive, coaching-style workshop, this 2-day course is structured around three key themes—leadership, management, and access—and offers a practical, discussion-led space to explore the realities of leading teams in fast-paced production environments.

This training programme is funded by the Screen Skills Unscripted TV Skills Fund which invests in training for the unscripted workforce thanks to contributions from broadcasters, SVoDs and production companies.

Who it's for

Leaders and managers working in production management including junior production managers, production managers, line producers, production execs and heads of production.

This course is on offer in Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol and Newcastle; please apply to the course closest to you. If you would like to discuss travel or accommodation support to attend the iteration that, while closest to you, still would require an overnight stay, please email USF@screenskills.com.

We always welcome applications from under-represented groups, including, but not limited to: those from minority ethnic groups; disabled people; people from the LGBT community and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

What it covers

Topics include:

  • Onboarding and setting expectations
  • Building trust
  • Effective communication, and leading with humility
  • Managing difficult conversations
  • Feedback, delegation, and performance
  • Creating inclusive, accessible, and mentally healthy workplaces.

Participants will also consider resilience, wellbeing, and personal growth as leaders, while sharing real-life challenges and strategies.

Designed and led by experienced industry facilitators Sam Jukes-Adams and Addie Orfila, the training is not “chalk and talk” but a dynamic exchange that builds upon the knowledge and experience of participants. By the end of the programme, attendees will leave with new tools, peer networks, and resources to strengthen their leadership practice and enable creative, sustainable, and inclusive productions.

How to apply

Click ‘Apply now’ at the top of the page and follow the instructions to apply for your place: you must login or register before you are able to complete your application.

If you need additional support to complete your application or require the application form in an alternative format please contact USF@screenskills.com

Places are limited and applications are expected to be highly competitive. To stand the best chance of securing a place, please be sure to consider the following:

  • When asked to list your three most recent credits, please include the programme title and your job role.
  • When asked what you hope to gain from the course, please be concise but ensure you cover the specific elements of the topic you would like to gain knowledge of and what gaps in your skillset you believe the course may address. A rewording of the course title or a general comment on career progression does not tell us much about how this course would benefit you.

If you are no longer able to attend, we ask you to please use the “decline ticket” function on the right hand side of the page so that we can release your place. Our sessions are often oversubscribed, so we’d like to give other freelancers the opportunity to fill available spots. Thank you for your consideration.
