ScreenSkills has signed a letter urging the Prime Minister to support freelancers and the self-employed financially during the coronavirus crisis.

The call for action, organised for the sector by the Creative Industries Federation and IPSE, which represents the self-employed, asks the government to implement a Temporary Income Protection Fund to help the self-employed and freelancers cope with a loss of income. Similar funds have been announced by other countries, including Norway, in recent days.

Acknowledging the package of measures that have already been announced by the government, the letter stresses the proposals are not well-tailored to the self-employed, who need fast cash flow support and are not entitled to Statutory Sick Pay.

We will continue to advocate on behalf of our freelance workforce.
