About

For nearly a decade I worked in HETV and feature film post-production. First as a runner, then a trainee, second and first assistant editor, working on film such as, Billy Elliot, Gosford Park, The Jacket as well as some Channel 4 and BBC TV drama series. As a result of increased family commitments I left the cutting room and became an audio transcriber for Film and TV.

Four years ago, I decided to retrain, update my skills, and familiarised myself with a dramatically different digital landscape. I took a weekend Avid course at London Film Academy, joined a six month post production course at Met Film School, took online courses in Avid Media Composer (Fundamentals 1) and After Effects, and most recently attended access course in Davinci Resolve at Soho Editors. I also threw myself back into the professional environment and took on a short stint shadowing the first assistant editor on Expendables 4. This has been a difficult journey; I have had to challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone. Like many creatives I am resourceful and driven by the desire to contribute. I realise that technology may change the way we tell stories but our desire to tell stories doesn’t. I love editing and creating content and that is where I see my future combining my past experience with the new skills I have acquired.

My goal now is to work as an assembly editor in film or HETV documentaries and being part of the Returners’ Mentoring programme, is helping me to prepare to fulfil my ambitions. I am excited about the future, I feel like I’m just starting out, which might seem odd coming from someone who started this journey over twenty years ago!
