This DaVinci Resolve finishing course is designed to support 15 experienced online editors across the UK who are looking to transfer their online editing skills to Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio.

This fully funded course will cover:

  • Two days hands-on DaVinci Resolve training from an industry experienced certified Blackmagic design instructor
  • Training on a DaVinci Resolve Micro Panel
  • A full license for the latest version of DaVinci Resolve Studio for you to keep
  • Training covering industry workflows used by professional DaVinci Resolve online editors

We want to ensure the barriers to this training is minimal, therefore, under certain circumstances, this funding will also cover:

  • Rail travel to and from London
  • One night accommodation in London
  • Up to 2 days childcare cover to a max of £40 per day

There is limited funding available for this assistance, therefore, it will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

This programme will be delivered by Soho Editors and is funded by the ScreenSkills High-end TV Skills Fund with contributions from UK high-end TV productions.

Who it's for

The aim of this training programme is to support experienced online editors across the UK.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Have at least one online editing credit OR prove you are working to start online editing
  • Be a UK resident and have the right to work here
  • Be available to attend all the sessions of the training
  • Have an established connection to the UK industry
  • Be aged over 18

What it covers

In this two-day course, you will learn the main lessons needed to move your workflow from using Avid for your online edit, to using DaVinci Resolve for all online/finishing and delivery.

The training course will cover:

  • Overview of DaVinci Resolve feature set, focusing on colour grading, colour management, media management, VFX.
  • Resolve vs Avid methods of operation for a finishing editor.
  • Benefits using Resolve for the online edit.
  • Preparing an Avid project for export.
  • Conform into Resolve.
  • Relinking and trouble shooting in Resolve.
  • Resolve’s media management tool.
  • Useful features for online editing in Resolve - metadata, edit index, C-mode sort, clip filters, flags, etc.
  • Understanding DaVinci Resolves latest AI tools needed for Finishing.
  • Working with and converting HDR.
  • Working with DaVinci Resolve control surfaces and BMD Cloud Store.
  • Deliver from Resolve - audio tracks, IMF export, ungraded archival masters, etc.
  • Dealing with last minute changes to the 'locked' edit, including copying grades to a new conform.
  • Exporting files for the audio mixer to maintain sync and stay on the up-to-date version of the edit.

The two-day face-to-face course will be run for three separate groups at Soho Editors training central London training centre on the following dates:

Course 1 

  • 28 February, 2024 from 10:00 to 17:00
  • 29 February, 2024 from 10:00 to 17:00

Course 2 

  • 23 March, 2024 from 10:00 to 17:00
  • 24 March, 2024 from 10:00 to 17:00

Course 3

  • 8 April, 2024 from 10:00 to 17:00
  • 9 April, 2024 from 10:00 to 17:00
