High-end TV working group investments 2022/23

The High-end TV Skills Fund invests in developing the skills of high-end TV professionals at all career stages across the whole of the UK and in bringing new entrants into the industry.

The High-end TV Council and industry-led groups – made up of more than 60 industry leaders - decide how the contributions are invested, using their experience and the most up-to-date research to determine the most effective use of the collected funds.

The working groups are:

  • Make a Move
  • Production grades
  • Post-production and VFX
  • Producers
  • Regions
  • Trainee Finder
  • Wales
  • Scotland
  • Northern Ireland

These are the investments each group is making this year.

Craft and tech working group

Second AD training (including crowd seconding) - training for 30.

Return to work in craft and teach - training for 12 followed by placement part funding for six.

Resilience workshop: how to look after yourself and your team - monthly online sessions.

Start a career in costume in TV - training for 20 followed by placement part funding 10.

The guiding principles of department budgeting - training for 120.

Trainee grips: trainee programme - training and placements for eight to 10.

Step up to first AD (focused on seconds and thirds) - training for 30 followed by placement part funding for 15.

Production grades working group

Step up to production coordinator training (in collaboration with the regions working group) - training for 180 including + 20 regional people - plus 15 regional based placements available.

Accounts industry transfer programme - (in collaboration with the regions working group) - training for 40, including five from the regions followed by placement part funding for 29, including three from the regions.

Understanding post delivery - training for 90

Step up to line producer (also available for individuals moving over from other areas of screen) - training for 25 followed by placement part funding 20.

Introduction to location management, including job transferrers (in collaboration with the regions working group) - training for 15 followed by placement part funding for 11, including three from the regions.

 

Producers working group

Co-producer supported placements - placement part funding for seven.

Co-producer, continuity fund - follow on funds to secure second opportunity for six from 2021 cohort.

Post and VFX working group

Leading remote and hybrid teams in post and VFX - training for up to 50.

Moving to Avid 2021 - training for 15.

Avid to Resolve (finishing for streaming clients) - training for up to 15.

Post production and sound trainee pilot - 10 trained and placements available for each of the 10.

Training masterclass: freelance assistant editors, post - virtual zoom seminars to provide bite-size tech course. Target of 100.

ACES grading - training for 36.

Managing client relationships in post and VFX - training for 15 post and 15 VFX.

Regions working group

Step up to production coordinator (in collaboration with production working group) - training for 20 as part of the wider programme with production grades working group - plus 15 placements for regional people.

Accounts transfer programme (in collaboration with production working group) - training for five as part of the wider programme with production grades working group plus three placements for regional people.

Virtual production tech training days - new entrant trainee taster day for 100 plus half-day virtual production taster event for 30 more experienced crew on how VR affects a role.

Getting a start in production programme (socio-economically challenged focused programme) - training across six months for six people. To target production hubs in Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and Bristol.

Introduction to production management (in collaboration with production working group) - training for five plus three part funded placements for regional people.

Make a Move working group

Make a Move - part funded placement funds and support for 150.

Virtual production introduction days for Make a Movers - training days for 100.

Trainee Finder working group

Trainee subsidised placements plus bespoke training - 209 individuals provided with part-funded placements across the UK over 12 months (flexibility to increase the cohort during the year as needed).

Introduction to virtual production sessions available to all trainees - training sessions for 209.

Wales working group

Welsh HETV Head of Department Development programme – three funded placements between 10 to 18 weeks.

Script editor programmefunding for two participants for six months.

Stepping Up programme - approximately eight-10 participants with match funding.

Wales Account Transfer programme - two trainees to be supported in collaboration with UK-wide Account Transfer programme funded via the production working group.

Scotland working group

Accountant transfer training (in collaboration with the production grades and the regions working groups) -training for five accountants based in Scotland with the opportunity to then be placed on high-end productions in Scotland.

Runner intern programme –  six month paid studio or production company internships for three participants.

Resilience workshops – How to look after yourself and your team (in collaboration with the craft and tech working group). Monthly online sessions for 20 people in Scotland.

Northern Ireland working group

Accountant transfer training - training for six accountants followed by four subsidised 10-week traineeships.

Production secretary/junior production coordinator training - training for six professionals followed by three subsidised 15-week traineeships.

Standby prop training - training for four professionals by two subsidised 20-week traineeships.
