Building information and facilities

Lifts:

The venue has two floors and one lift. The building has only one passenger lift and the lift measurements are 79cm wide x 139cm deep x 198cm high. The maximum weight for the lift is 630kg.

Stairs and steps:

There are handrails either side and from the ground floor there are 32 steps to the first floor. The stairs are wide.

Toilets:

The IET Austin Court has nine toilets in total. Three are located on the first floor, including one disabled toilet. Six are located on the ground floor including one disabled toilet.

The venue does not have baby changing facilities on site but a few minutes’ walk away, the ICC does have these facilities available.

Quiet space: 

A quiet space can be found on the first floor. Please speak to ScreenSkills staff wearing a bright pink lanyard or a ScreenSkills t-shirt for more information.

Assistance for guide dogs:

The venue will provide water bowls and the nearest green space is City Centre Gardens which is a two minute walk (311 yards).

Audio:

The venue has a hearing aid induction loop. For events in the lecture theatre, you can request equipment that works with an infrared system. The equipment is compatible with T-button hearing aids and will create a personal loop for you. Please contact ScreenSkills if you would like to use this feature on events@screenskills.com.

Flashing lights/strobe lighting:

The Kingston Lecture Theatre does not feature any strobe lighting, however, there may be half-light (dimmed for presentations) and full blackout, as well as back wall uplighters on the stage.

  • Boulton/Faraday on the ground floor
  • Boot Room (quiet space) on the first floor

Wheelchair accessibility:

The venue is fully accessible, with a level ground floor and lift to the first floor. Access to the staged area in the Kingston Theatre is through the Green Room. There are two spaces at the back of the Kingston Theatre for wheelchair users, alternatively access is also available at the front to accommodate up to eight. To access the front of the Kingston Theatre, there is a ramp which leads you down to this area.

Parking:

There are two disabled parking spaces which can be found at the front of the building. If you require use of these, please email Anna at: events@screenskills.com.
