First AD Masterclass
An affordable, two-day training course led by highly experienced trainer and First AD Richard Lingard, providing the key information you need to become a First AD in HETV.
The first session will take place in Glasgow in January 2020 with further opportunities to follow in London, Belfast and Cardiff in February 2020.
You will learn about the critical role of the AD, and your responsibilities in ‘Preparation’ and ‘On The Shoot’ with different HETV productions.
You will participate in a Script Breakdown Workshop, covering all aspects of reading, interpreting and breaking down a shooting script from page to stage.
We introduce you to Movie Magic Scheduling.
You will also receive insight into:
- The impact of budget, cast availability and script coverage on the shooting schedule
- Supporting the hiring of locations, props and equipment
- Leading a technical recce
- Set and Studio Floor protocols and etiquette
- Working with supporting artistes
- Liaising with the production office to create call sheets, movement orders and other production paperwork
- Managing a set or studio floor with confidence during a shoot
- Managing talent
- Health and Safety, First Aid and Risk Assessment
The course leader will be Richard Lingard.
Richard has worked as a freelance First AD on HETV, Feature, Shorts and Commercial productions for over twenty five years.
For the last three years he has been the Course Leader for the Assistant Directing and Floor Managing Diploma at the National Film & Television School.
Richard is one of the key training providers at the Assistant Directors Association and has undertaken many regional talks for Northern Media (Newcastle and Middlesborough), Durham University and Ravensbourne College.
He regularly teaches Movie Magic Scheduling at the London Film School.
