According to a Parliamentary Report, the UK’s youth unemployment rate of 11% in 2018 compared to a rate of 15.1% for the European Union as a whole. To monitor and improve employment opportunities by age group, Office of National Statistics recommends requesting date of birth and assessing in age brackets according to standard census classifications (with lower end < 16 removed and higher end > 65 merged).

Why do we ask this question?

To monitor and improve employment opportunities for people from BAME backgrounds, this question was devised in consultation with ACAS and categories are established by Office of National Statistics.
