I'm a theatre maker and actor, based in both Glasgow and London. I trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, graduating with a BA in Acting in 2012. Since then I have worked as an actor in theatre, radio and television. Please see below a short list of credits:
Theatre credits include: TOMORROW, THE DESTROYED ROOM, STRIPTEASE & OUT AT SEA (Vanishing Point), THE MAIDS, NOTES FROM THE UNDERGROUND (Citizens Theatre), THE CHANGELING, JANIS JOPLIN: FULL TILT (A Play, A Pie, A Pint) LOVE 2.0 (Sleeping Warrior), KILLING ME SOFTLY (New Wolsey Theatre), EVEN A FAILING CANDLE STILL CASTS A SHADOW (Rose Ruane/Queens Park Railway Club). Radio and TV credits: EAST OF EDEN, MCLEVY: SERIES 12, 44 SCOTLAND STREET (BBC Radio Drama), ZOMBIE RULE NO.9 (BBC Radio Scotland), BURNISTOUN (BBC/Comedy Unit) and SAILMAKER (BBC Learning/Bees Knees Productions).
It was here that I began creating work as a theatre maker, and since graduating in 2012, I have continued to create write work for the stage. I have had my writing performed at venues including The Glad Cafe, The Tron, and the Arches.
Further examples of my writing include: RID (Soho/Goldsmiths ‘Emerge 2017’), THE SPINNING TOP (shortlisted by Heritage Arts/Ideastap), BLACK HOLE (shortlisted for development by HighTide festival) and THE VISIT (shortlisted at The Tron’s ‘Progressive Playwright’ Festival).
My work as an actor has progressed my development as an aspiring theatre maker, giving me the chance to work closely with acclaimed theatre practitioners such as Stewart Laing, Matthew Lenton, Pamela Carter, and Lu Kemp. These experiences gave me the opportunity to work with different artist’s processes in a professional environment, from rehearsal to performance, and have made a major impact on my artistic practice. They have strongly influenced me on how techniques when creating new or devised work can apply to my writing, all in an effort to make bold and innovative theatre.
In 2016, I chose to take a major step in my development as a playwright, and study towards an MA in ‘Dramaturgy and Writing for Performance’ at Goldsmiths University. I did this in order to gain an educational rigour in theatre making that can benefit my professional experience. This has been of tremendous value, providing me with a more detailed education in dramaturgy and script development, but has also allowed me to work with practitioners such as David Lane, Mojisola Adebayo, and Ned Glasier.
The ease of access to facilities at Goldsmiths University has provided me with a terrific arena in which to grow as a theatre maker. After casting a group of actors, I created an ongoing workshop, initially to hone my skills and techniques as a playwright by working on text. This has organically morphed into a weekly laboratory, in which I lead the ensemble in the creation of new work for the theatre.
